  This full-day program brings together clinical social workers and mental health professionals to explore social justice as an essential and integrated component of ethical, effective practice. Through experiential learning, trauma-informed frameworks, and systems-based perspectives, participants will examine how collective healing, social determinants of mental health, and advocacy efforts intersect with clinical work—both inside and beyond the therapy hour. The program also addresses emerging considerations, including the ethical use of artificial intelligence and financial wellbeing, through a social justice lens. Participants will engage in reflection, discussion, and practical strategies designed to strengthen their capacity to promote equity, healing, and systemic change in their professional roles and communities.

  Learning Objectives

  By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how experiential and collective healing practices can serve as primary components of psychotherapy and community-based mental health care.
  2. Identify key social determinants of mental health and explain their impact on trauma, access to care, and clinical outcomes from a social justice perspective.
  3. Apply trauma-informed principles to clinical practice in ways that actively address inequities and systemic oppression.
  4. Evaluate concrete actions mental health professionals can take outside the therapy hour to advance social justice, advocacy, and community wellbeing.
  5. Integrate ethical considerations related to social justice, artificial intelligence, and financial wellbeing into clinical decision-making and professional practice.
  6. Develop practical strategies for incorporating social justice values into everyday clinical work while maintaining professional boundaries, ethical standards, and self-care.

  Sexual assault is often shrouded in silence, leaving survivors to navigate trauma alone. This presentation explores the social, psychological, and emotional impacts of sexual assault, the reasons survivors may feel unable to speak out, and how communities can foster support, understanding, and empowerment.   This workshop introduces attendees to the emotional and psychological changes commonly experienced during the peripartum period (conception through the first year postpartum). The session is designed for both professionals (healthcare, educators, doulas, therapists) and individuals seeking a foundational understanding of peripartum mental health.

  Workshop Objectives:

  At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand key mental health challenges in the peripartum period (e.g., postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and birth trauma). 
  2.  Recognize signs, symptoms, and risk factors for peripartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). 
  3. Learn evidence-based support strategies and screening tools. Explore inclusive and trauma-informed approaches for supporting diverse families. 
  4.  Identify when and how to refer individuals for professional mental health care.

  Families who enter therapy are often navigating precarious situations and shifting family dynamics. When separation, divorce, and stepfamily formation enter the picture, challenges multiply—bringing new roles, boundaries, loyalties, and emotional complexities. To support these families effectively, clinicians need to understand the dynamics and developmental tasks that families encounter during these transitions, as well as the specific approaches and interventions that help.

  This experiential workshop will provide an overview of the challenges that arise for families undergoing separation, divorce, and stepfamily formation, and equip clinicians with practical, concrete skills to support families in these pivotal moments. Through role-plays, case examples, and interactive exercises, participants will have the opportunity to practice interventions and learn strategies that foster collaboration and resilience in families undergoing profound change.

  Clinicians will leave with increased confidence and competence in guiding families through some of the most difficult transitions they face, while helping them build healthier pathways forward.
