Relational Ethics and Social Work Practice

CEUs: 3.0 (ETHICS CREDIT)

Review the NASW code of ethics and apply it to your current interactions with clients. This workshop will also review the Virginia Standards of Practice.  Earn these Ethics credits -- VA members can submit for your VA renewal due this June.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will:

1. Identify the core values and historical development of ethical practice in social work
2. Review the content of the NASW code of ethics
3. Review Virginia standards of practice as well as Washington D.C. and Maryland
4. Describe potential ethical issues in social work practice
5. Identify personal practice and potential ethical dilemmas related to social work practice
6. Identify a protocol for effectively resolving ethical issues in practice

10:15-10:40 | Introduction to course overview
10:40-11:00 | Participants will develop course worksheet that identifies core values applied to Personal practice  
11:00- 11:30 | Social work code of ethics review

• History of the development of the code and unique social work functions
• Identify core values that underlie social work practice
• Review Virginia Standards of Practice
• Review NASW Code

• Common concerns in malpractice avoidance
• Developing standards for best practices in social work

• Define personal ethical dilemmas in participant’s practice
• Role play effective solutions for resolving ethical concerns
