Greater Washington Society For Clinical Social Work strongly supports the advocacy being demonstrated by Americans fighting for justice for the African American community. As clinical social workers, it is part of our responsibility to protect vulnerable populations, work for social justice, and guide clients in communicating and experiencing their emotions and beliefs in an effective manner.

We stand with the African American community in the belief that a systemic change is required to address the racism that is needlessly terrorizing and killing our fellow citizens.

Our social work values teach us to honor the inherent worth and dignity of every human being as well as work for social change. Therefore, the Society encourages its members to be involved in legislation, advocacy, education, activism and protest. As clinical social workers, we strive to do our part in engaging in anti-racism work and in supporting our clients while they navigate a racist society and implement change.

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

    Change Direction
is a national effort to educate people about mental health. The goal of the Campaign to Change Direction is to change the culture of mental health in America so that all of those in need receive the care and support they deserve. The Campaign encourages all Americans to pay attention to their emotional well-being – and it reminds us that our emotional well-being is just as important as our physical well-being.
