In April, Alice Kassabian, a board member of the Community Advisory Council on Cancer, co-chaired a conference at Inova Fairfax Hospital sponsored by the Council. The conference was called Faces of Cancer, Survivorship: Living the “New Normal”. The “New Normal" is considered a distinct phase of cancer care that provides challenges for survivor/patient, family, caregiver, and healthcare professionals alike.

In March 2006, Joyce M L Harrison, LCSW-C facilitated a domestic violence training for the Domestic Violence Unit of the Office of the Sheriff of Prince Georges County.

Ruth Neubauer, MSW has just completed teaching a course at American University's Institute for Learning in Retirement called "Psychoanalytic Ideas for Everyday Living" . At the end of May, Ruth gave an invited paper in Nova Scotia at a conference called Narrative Matters. Her paper is entitled : "Storylines coming in, Narratives going out: The Process of Psychotherapy.

Linda Rubenstein, LCSW-C has been appointed for a two-year term on the Alcohol Safety Action Program Policy Board by the Fairfax Board of Supervisors.

Robert Scuka had his book Relationship Enhancement Therapy: Healing Through Deep Empathy and Intimate Dialogue published by Routledge in June of 2005. During June and July of 2005, Rob did a three day RE Therapy training in Orange County, CA, and RE Program Leadership Trainings in Dallas, TX and Sacramento, CA.

Diana Seasonwein, Marcie Solomon and Janis Colton became B’not Mitzvot at Temple Sinai on June 3rd. Imagine, two past Society presidents and the current Society president in the same Adult B’not Mitzvah class. Mazel Tov!

On April 24, Susan Stevens, LCSW-C and Pat Taffe Driscoll, LICSW represented the Clinical Society at the NCSSS Job Fair at Catholic University, extolling the values of membership to the more than twenty-five graduates who signed-up for future announcements--one even joined that very day! Social Work staff from other agencies at the Fair also made inquiries and received information.
