This is an 8 part lunchtime series designed to support and empower the clinician who is considering starting a private practice. It is also for the clinician who wants to enhance the practice they already have to reflect their own unique passions, skills and lifestyle preferences. Each workshop in the series gives concrete information, leads participants through internal reflection/discovery and encourages/supports participants. Also, each workshop is audio-taped and available to be emailed to those who would like to participate but may have a schedule conflict. The suggested homework exercises that are given following each workshop can also be emailed. The series is a great way to connect with colleagues who are going through a similar process. In past workshops friendships have developed and participants commented on the value of feeling less isolated in their pursuits.

Is love sometimes a mystery to you? What makes love last? What makes it deepen over time? What keeps it fresh and new? The 10 Relationship Enhancement Skills can help you solve the mysteries of relationships. Mastering the Mysteries of Love, a new version of Relationship Enhancement, has been taught to over 14,000 couples around the nation since it was first introduced in 2008. Mastering the Mysteries of Love combines skills training in Bernard Guerney's Relationship Enhancement® Program with video, powerpoint, experiential activities, and individual coached couple dialogues in a program that is both fun and transformative. Day One focuses on enhancing the bonds between the two of you: * Recognizing you have two perspectives and that's OK * Listening beyond what is said to deep feelings, concerns, and desires * Enhancing how you talk about important topics, so you express all that is in your heart and on your mind in a way that maximizes your mate's willingness to cooperate * Finding ways to make time for each other * Dialoguing in a way that facilitates shared meaning and opens the way for creative solutions * Finding ways to solve problems so everybody gets the core of what is most important Day Two adds: * Time to talk through and solve at least one more additional topic * Ways to keep yourselves in skills when conflict pops up unexpectedly * Ways to manage conflict and strong emotions * How to deepen any conversation to build intimacy * How to follow through on changes so problems are really solved * How to trade in nagging for supporting each other's changes * How to practice habits that maintain your relationship through the years. Child-Centered Play Therapy

The purpose of this two-day skills training workshop is to provide participants a comprehensive introduction to the Child-Centered Play Therapy Model and to teach participants the principles and techniques for conducting all aspects of Child-Centered Play Therapy with children, from intake through termination. The workshop emphasizes the building of participants' therapeutic skills through a process that combines lecture, demonstration and supervised practice via participant role-plays and mock play sessions. Completion of this workshop is a prerequisite for application to NIRE's Certification Program in Child-Centered Play Therapy Workshop Objectives: Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to: * Identify the parameters for the appropriate use of play therapy * Quickly establish a strong therapeutic relationship * Create the recommended therapeutic atmosphere * Facilitate the child's mastery of thoughts and feelings to help eliminate immature and symptomatic behaviors * Set and enforce limits in an effective and therapeutic way * Identify the major stages of play therapy and accompanying themes * Communicate to parents about play therapy and their child's progress and help them and the child terminate therapy Agenda * History of play therapy * Rationale, methods and principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) * Deciding for whom CCPT is appropriate * Logistics of sessions and selection of toys * Stages and common themes of the play therapy process * Structuring the play sessions * Therapist skills and responses * Children's play styles * Use of role-play in play sessions * Handling common problems and special situations * Setting and enforcing limits * Termination issues

The purpose of this three-day skills training workshop is to provide participants a comprehensive introduction to the theory and methodology underlying the Relationship Enhancement Model and to teach participants how Relationship Enhancement therapy is conducted with couples and families, beginning with the intake interview and proceeding through all the phases of RE therapy. The workshop emphasizes the building of participants' therapeutic skills through a process that combines lecture, video, role-play demonstrations and intensively supervised skill practice. Workshop Objectives Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to: - Structure an intake interview so as to minimize in-session conflict and maximize commitment to positive therapeutic engagement - Teach clients the ten RE skills effectively - Structure Conflict Management Skill as a contract between couples - Coach couples' dialogues effectively - Use the Identification Mode of Empathy to help couples deepen their dialogues - Use special RE Therapy techniques such as Becoming and Troubleshooting - Combine individual therapy of family members with RE couple and family therapy - Overcome power imbalances among family members - Motivate the doubtful, resistant or hostile adolescent, spouse or parent

Filial Family Therapy

The purpose of this two-day training program is to provide participants who have had previous training in Child-Centered Play Therapy with a comprehensive introduction to the Filial Family Therapy Model and to teach participants the principles and techniques for conducting all aspects of Filial Family Therapy (FFT), from intake through termination. The workshop emphasizes the building of participants’ therapeutic skills through the use of lecture, video examples, and supervised skills training. Participants will practice via role-plays the methods of training, supervising, and supporting parents as they learn to conduct therapeutic play sessions with their children. Attention will also be given to the specifics of organizing and initiating FFT in participants’ own settings. The ratio of participants to workshop leader(s) is kept small so as to ensure ample opportunity for skills training and individual supervision. Completion of this workshop is a prerequisite for application to NIRE’s: Certification Program in Filial Family Therapy Workshop Objectives: Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to: * Utilize the rationale for and the apply the process of FFT effectively * Utilize the research on FFT to support your effective implementation of FFT * Determine when the method is appropriate for families * Conduct an FFT intake effectively * Train and supervise parents to conduct therapeutic play with their children * Utilize supervised role-plays to deepen parents’ effectiveness in using FFT * Evaluate the attainment of therapeutic goals and appropriatness of termination Agenda * History, development and supporting research for FFT * Rationale, methods and principles of FFT * Deciding for whom FFT is appropriate * Intake procedures and structuring for FFT * Sequences and stages of FFT * Teaching parents play therapy skills and supervising parent/child sessions * Addressing common problems parents encounter in home play sessions * Video tapes of parents playing at various therapy stages; discussion of tapes * Individual versus group formats and brief (10 sessions) versus longer formats * Adaptations for special populations * Termination issues * Transferring FFT to participants’ settings Prerequisite A two-day training workshop in Child-Centered Play Therapy (or its equivalent in course work) offered by IDEALS, NIRE, Penn State, Guerney, Nordling, North Texas State, Landreth, Andronico, Ginsburg, Lay, Levinger, Norton, Sywulak, VanFleet, or someone else who uses, as a strict guide, writings by Axline, Moustakas, Ginott or by the people listed above. Otherwise, it is recommended that those interested in this workshop first take a two-day workshop in Child-Centered Play Therapy.

Mastering the Mysteries of Love combines skills training in Bernard Guerney's Relationship Enhancement® Program with video, powerpoint, experiential activities, and individual coached couple dialogues in a program that is both fun and transformative. Day One focuses on enhancing the bonds between the two of you: * Recognizing you have two perspectives and that's OK * Listening beyond what is said to deep feelings, concerns, and desires * Enhancing how you talk about important topics, so you express all that is in your heart and on your mind in a way that maximizes your mate's willingness to cooperate * Finding ways to make time for each other * Dialoguing in a way that facilitates shared meaning and opens the way for creative solutions * Finding ways to solve problems so everybody gets the core of what is most important Day Two adds: * Time to talk through and solve at least one more additional topic * Ways to keep yourselves in skills when conflict pops up unexpectedly * Ways to manage conflict and strong emotions * How to deepen any conversation to build intimacy * How to follow through on changes so problems are really solved * How to trade in nagging for supporting each other's changes * How to practice habits that maintain your relationship through the years. You will also learn how to extend the benefits of the weekend through our special services for engaged and newly wed couples and for stepfamilies.
