LEGISLATION & ADVOCACY - MARYLAND

The Maryland Legislative Council* has sent a questionnaire to all the candidates for delegate and senate in the Maryland General Assembly, asking where they stand on a variety of mental health issues, specifically:

  • the expansion of insurance coverage to Maryland’s uninsured and under-insured

  • the regulation of insurers to clarify their responsibilities to their subscribers as well as to providers in and out-of-network, and

  • the inclusion of LCSW-Cs in certain specialized areas of practice.

Quite a number of the candidates found time to complete and return our questionnaires, despite the time constraints and rigors of campaigning. You can read these responses by clicking on the names of the candidates below. Each responder is identified by District and Office Sought. We will continue to post responses as they come in (when we update the website each month).

We urge you to read your candidates’ responses, and to consider their stands on mental health issues when you make your decisions on November 7. If the candidates for your District haven’t responded to the questionnaire, raise these issues with them. The more that the candidates hear constituents supporting these positions, the more likely they are to be responsive when elected.

Responses of candidates outside the metropolitan area served by the Greater Washington Society can be found on the website of the Maryland Society: http://www.mscsw.org.
