Mental Health Parity Vote Ending insurance discrimination against individuals with mental illness has long been a goal of the mental health community. A major step was taken on February 14 when the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee voted 18 to 3 in favor of bi-partisan legislation introduced by Senators Domenici, (R-NM), Kennedy (D-MA), and Enzi (R-WY) to require health plans to provide equal coverage to mental illness. Progress is being made and there is hope for passage this fall.
